UKGRIDWATCH

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

This policy explains how UKGRIDWATCH (ukgridwatch.co.uk) handles personal information when you use our website or UKGRIDWATCH mobile application (together, the “Services”).

1. Who operates UKGRIDWATCH?

UKGRIDWATCH is an independent, unofficial electricity-system information service. It is not affiliated with National Grid, NESO or other grid operators.

For privacy enquiries, contact [email protected].

2. Information we may process

Our electricity demand, generation, frequency, price and gas-storage data describes the energy system, not individual visitors.

3. Mobile application

The UKGRIDWATCH mobile app provides access to electricity-system information. When the app connects to our servers, standard network requests may expose technical information such as IP address, device/browser identifiers, app version and request timestamps.

If the app embeds the website in a web view, website cookies and local storage may also operate inside that view, subject to applicable consent choices.

App-specific verification required: This policy must be updated to name any actual app permissions and third-party SDKs (for example analytics, crash reporting, advertising or push notifications), the data they access and their purposes. Do not assume the app collects no data without checking its implementation.

4. Why we use information and our legal bases

5. Cookies and device storage

Cookies and similar storage may be used for essential site operation, security and remembering your privacy choices. Optional analytics or advertising storage, if enabled, should be explained through our cookie controls and activated only where a valid consent or exemption applies.

You can manage cookies in your browser and, where provided, through our cookie information/settings page. Disabling essential storage may affect some features.

For transparency, the live cookie inventory should identify each cookie or storage item, its provider, purpose and duration. That inventory must be checked against the deployed website and mobile app.

6. Sharing and third parties

Technical data may be processed by providers that host, secure or deliver our Services. Links to social networks, donation services and other external websites take you to services with their own privacy policies. We do not control their practices.

If third-party analytics, adverts, embedded content, app SDKs or push services are enabled, their providers and relevant data flows must be disclosed here and in the app's store Data safety declarations.

We do not sell personal information as part of operating the UKGRIDWATCH dashboard.

7. International transfers

Some hosting or technology providers may process data outside the UK. Where UK data protection rules require safeguards for an international transfer, we will use an appropriate lawful mechanism and provide further information on request.

8. How long information is kept

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, taking account of security, operational and legal needs. Server/security logs, correspondence and consent records may have different retention periods.

Before publishing: Insert the actual retention periods for access logs, security logs, correspondence, analytics identifiers and any mobile-app records. Avoid publishing a retention promise you cannot enforce.

9. Security

We use proportionate technical and organisational measures intended to protect information, including access controls and secure connections where supported. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data; restrict or object to certain processing; request portability; and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions.

To make a request, email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

11. Children

UKGRIDWATCH provides general-interest electricity information and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our website, mobile app, service providers or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated where required.
